The History

Aside from being a stunning location in general, choosing the Biltmore Los Angeles means choosing to make a Los Angeles icon and piece of history be part of your own personal history too! Construction began on the Biltmore in 1922 and was completed in a record-breaking 18 months! Close to 3,000 people attended the opening day of the Biltmore in October of 1923 and the guest list included some of Hollywood’s elite members of the time. In 1927 the Crystal Ballroom became known as “the birthplace of Oscar” after the original sketch of the Oscar Statuette was drawn on a Biltmore napkin during a banquet. The Biltmore went on to become hosts of the Academy Awards eight separate times over the course of the 1930s-1940s. The Biltmore has also been home to political gatherings and was the headquarters for the 1960 Democratic Convention and was also the location Reagan gave his victory speech in 1966 when he was elected Governor of California. In 1969 the Biltmore Los Angeles was officially designated as a Historic Monument by the Cultural Heritage Board of L.A. From the 1970s to current day, the Biltmore has continued to be a shining example of hospitality and timeless elegance and is one of the top five filming locations in Los Angeles. The iconic establishment attracts both locals and tourists, dignitaries, and Hollywood stars.
