From the groom... "We met via mutual friends who were (at the time) dating, introduced blindly on a double date. Our date followed the day that I (Andrew) committed to my move from Toronto to Calgary by loading up everything into a friend's car (the same doing the introducing) and spending the previous 4 days driving across Canada together. I had spent the previous 6 months in Calgary, working and living in temporary accommodations, but this drive solidified the commitment to living in Calgary. I had looked forward to the blind date (my first in 23 years). Years later, Nicholle admitted a different perspective going into our first date. When I was first introduced to the idea of meeting someone on a blind date, I had just committed myself to focusing on saying yes to anything and everything (almost like a "Yes Man" scenario, you might say) to help me grow as a person. Therefore, I agreed to meet this "nerdy but good looking sarcastic guy" that my friend I had worked with during my time as an Ice Girl for the Calgary Flames hockey team knew. When the day came around, however, I was having some serious trouble sticking to my new mantra and instead of meticulously prepping for my date as I usually would I went to lunch with my dad and sister. Over about ten cups of coffee, they finally convinced me that I needed to rush home and get ready to meet "a new friend, at least." When we met, the energy at the table was a bit awkward. Our two friends that we were double dating with did very little to help introduce us and get the ball rolling! It was then that Andrew, sarcastically grasping at straws, ate a very bitter cranberry from the fishbowl drink we were all sharing. He was contorting his face and obviously not enjoying it at all! To break the ice and get a few laughs, I decided to follow suit. A small gesture, but our mutual willingness to look silly in front of virtual strangers and try new things created a spark, and I don't think we spent a day apart after that evening. Even today, Andrew and I are the ultimate "partners in crime" whether it be conquering his fear of heights by skydiving, overcoming my claustrophobic tendencies by undertaking our scuba diving license or even tag-teaming the clean-up from our two-year-old labradoodle Bowen. I always feel like we are tackling an adventure together and I know that will never change!"
