Today I would like to introduce Yvonne as our guest blogger. Yvonne and John’s coastal affair was filled with beautiful handmade details and lots of love from their closest friends and family.
My husband and I met at work. He pursued, I fell for him, and now, we’ve been blessed with one happy year of marriage together. He’s an amazing man with wisdom & maturity well beyond his years and this funny gene that makes me laugh all the time. It was love at a time when it was least expected and a blessing and answer to my prayers. For our proposal, he had this elaborate scheme that included having my dog carry a rose in her mouth, with the engagement ring and a message attached of “Will you marry me?’ when i walked through the door. Lets just say that my doggie did not cooperate and it turned into something more of a humorous spectacle. But nevertheless, I would not have changed a thing because it was perfect with the laughter and doggie confusion and ends up being a good story anyways :)
Wedding planning was overall a really fun experience. I think the hardest decision was finding the location, but was absolutely delighted with my venue. La Venta has coordinators {Sara} that helped make my day run smoothly. The site was beautiful overlooking the ocean and the food {one of my number of priorties} was deeelicious. Guests raved about the food and have said that it was one of the best wedding meals they ever had. {Exactly what I wanted!} Happy tummies = happy guests. I found all my venues/ideas via internet, weddingbee (looove this site!) and also venue site recommendations. I loved designing and making all of the little details of the wedding {menu cards, drink menus, kissing menus, runners, photo booth, and program}. It made it that much more personal. My best tool that helped keep me sane and peaceful was a detailed timeline that I created ahead of time that defined everyone’s roles for the day, minute-by-minute schedule, as well as lists of what needed be brought to the site and back home. {yes, totally type A}
The wedding day was beautiful and flew by so quickly. My favorite memory – walking down the aisle with my father on my arm and seeing my {future} husband at the altar {tear drop}. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to have a professional videographer at the wedding since I knew that the day would fly by in a blink of an eye. It was important to me that I could re-live the raw emotion of the day, to hear the vows again, and to see things that I would have missed because I was off taking pictures..The video, paired with music, recreates the power and magic of the day in a different way that pictures cannot. (Don’t get me wrong, I loved my photographer!) I am so glad that I set aside money for the video and of course Elysium did a wonderful job. I remember watching the video and being surprised and amazed that they were there to capture so many of the moments. It is something that I’ve watched again and again and love it every time…
