KATE'S VERSION: "In my junior year I went to a formal party with my family, and my dad and I were dancing when he left me to go dance with his godmother. As I was walking off the dance floor alone, this boy asked me to dance who turned out to be Steven. We hung out for the rest of the night, and then didn't see each other until after we graduated a year and a half later when I got a Snapchat from a mutual friend of Steven & I's. It was a picture of Steven saying "didn't expect to see me." After a couple of weeks of Steven texting me off our friend's phone, we hung out at the beach with a group of friends. Then Steven finally got my number, and we went on a date that ended with him winning me a stuffed animal. It also ended with me finding out he was going to spend the next 9 months playing volleyball in Europe. After spending 12 days together, Steven left for the Netherlands, and we continued to talk every day even with the time change. In October of 2014, my mom & I went to Paris for my graduation, and I added on a trip to visit Steven, which was probably the biggest risk I've ever taken. After that, I continued to visit him for the next two years & we fell in love adventuring around Europe during my visits. During the third year I went with him & lived in France for his last year of volleyball until we came home in the Spring of 2017. A year & a half later Steven surprised me & popped the question on the beach where I grew up, while we took my dog for a walk." STEVEN'S VERSION: "In my junior year I was going to a formal party with my friends and family right before Christmas. When I got there, one of my friends was introducing her friend, Kate, to my group of friends. I immediately thought she was very cute and had made a mental note to find her later. I saw her on the dance floor later and asked her if she wanted to dance, and luckily she said yes! We hung out that night and seemed to have a great time, but I never got her number! It would be a year and a half until we talked again, though on multiple occasions during that time, I would ask our mutual friend if Kate was still single and what not. Finally, the summer after graduating from college, I took my friend's phone and messaged Kate and convinced her to come meet me at the beach with some friends. After that, I asked her on a proper date, and we had a great time doing dinner and the pier, and continued to hang out for the next couple weeks. I have great timing, so of course, I was leaving for Europe for 9 months right as things were getting good. Luckily, Kate had a more flexible schedule with school at the time, and was able to spend some time in Europe, and every one of those trips brought us closer to new adventures! When she moved to France to be near me in my 3rd year abroad, we proved to each other we can actually spend every day together and continue to love each other more each day! Europe gave us lots of adventures, but being back home in Los Angeles continued to bring even more experiences! I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her soon after, and let her in on that secret when I proposed on her local beach."
